I was on my way to meet a friend at her beach hut last week and my walk took me past Granny Gothards Ice Cream Parlour which is right near the traffic lights on the right hand side as you enter into Budleigh Salterton from Exmouth. I had seen the shop being refitted on my recent visits to the lovely Earls opposite, and I was delighted to see it finally open and selling ice cream!
It’s lovely and light inside with tables and chairs, great for families with children and somewhere to sit to eat and enjoy your ice cream, hot waffle or brownie. All the ice cream is hand made, fresh and natural and there is such a wide selection of flavours to choose from. Also on offer are sorbets, frozen yoghurts tea, coffee and cold drinks. You can have a choice of cones, plain or chocolate or you can have your favourite ice cream in a tub. Of course I had to try one. I went for my all time favourite, Honeycombe. My cone was filled with a very generous scoop of soft creamy ice cream and being a hot day I had to lick it fairly quickly (like you do) to stop it dripping when I got outside the shop. An excuse really to get stuck straight in! It certainly tasted very good and didn’t last long.
I may just have to go back to try one of the other flavours.
