You won’t be able to miss Bill’s, with its bright and cheery exterior – what a pretty sight as you enter into Gandy Street. We were invited along to check out the recent refurb which took place last month and lucky for us, it coincided with the launch of new dishes on the dinner menu. Now I haven’t visited Bill’s Exeter prior to the refurb, … Continue reading REVIEW: Bill’s Restaurant, Exeter by Sue Stoneman #Ad #Invited
Well April is already here, and so far I’ve been as busy as ever with blog stuff. Life and health has got in the way slightly more than last year, but the show continues as ever. April is the highlight of the foodie calendar in Exeter with the fantastic Exeter Food Festival which took place over the weekend. I wasn’t able to attend the festival, … Continue reading Eating Exeter Update – April
We have made it. I am writing this on Boxing Day. The last few weeks (or months) has been leading up to Christmas Day, the Turkey has been eaten and most probably like other families across the nation, you have a fridge full of left-overs and will be eating bubble & squeak for the next three weeks. We had a Hacking Family Christmas which included … Continue reading Eating Exeter – Christmas update
So I thought I’d just put out a little update before going downstairs and making a brew. The last few months have been the busiest in the history of the blog, I’ve spoken to more people and been to more events than ever, and just when you think its about to stop, something else appears in the inbox 🙂 Good Game Topsham – We visited … Continue reading Eating Exeter Update – August (No.2)
When Harry’s Grill & Bar closed in Northernhay Place, it left available a prime spot for a restaurant. The inevitable march of Exeter’s chain restaurants had some worried that the site might be engulfed by some bland corporate named establishment… Enter stage left: James and Rob, founders of Circa 1924, a 1920’s inspired Steak and Seafood Restaurant that is raising the bar for casual-fine dining in … Continue reading Circa 1924, Exeter
I actually wrote this last night, but in its dying breathe my main PC froze completely and I lost the text. So I am having another go at telling you chaps what’s happening in the world of Eating Exeter over the next few weeks. I’ve been having a bit of a holiday recently from all things food blog. I’m heavily involved in coordinating Instagramers Exeter (http://igersexeter.tumblr.com) … Continue reading Eating Exeter Update (August-ish)
It seems like no time at all since the last update. We had a really busy June, including a visit to The HH Restaurant, some product reviews and a rather interesting experience at The Red Deer in Crediton. And the end of June and beginning of July seems to be hotting up to be quite busy too. Next week we finally visit Harry’s Restaurant in … Continue reading Eating Exeter Update – July
Bacon. Breaker of vegetarians, maker of Full English Breakfasts and very hard to cover the smell of. Supermarkets sell it, normally injected with water or treated with chemicals which help it stay preserved for longer so its refreshing to be able to tuck in to what I consider ‘proper bacon’. And who better to have bought these from.Piper’s Farm are award winning. Just look at … Continue reading Product Review: Piper’s Farm Unsmoked Back Bacon 5/5
Las Iguanas has been open just over a year now since it took over its prime spot on Queen St. after Pitcher & Piano abandoned it. After extensive works, which included stripping back the years of ‘super quick renovations’ to reveal the original flooring, the restaurant opened to a fanfare of Mexican goodness. Initially the first few months were a little shaky, and Trip Advisor was … Continue reading Las Iguanas, Queen St. Exeter

You can now read all of the Burger and Beer reviews included on Beer, Burger and Beyond from the ‘Burger Reviews’ page on the menu bar. Click here to have a look around. One thing I have been dying to do since Eating Exeter reached size enough to warrant it was to index the reviews in to some sort of easy glance page. It is an urge that I have now and again, being a librarian these things are inevitable. And that has now happened, head to ‘Read Reviews’ to see all of Eating Exeter’s reviews on one … Continue reading ‘Read Reviews’ page! Now all reviews are easy to find…
What do you get when you combine a stately home, the best of local producers and a sunny October in Devon? The Powderham Food Festival of course! I had the privilege of being invited along to this annual event on behalf of Eating Exeter and I have to say I was not at all disappointed. As you entered the main courtyard your sense where immediately … Continue reading Powderham Food Festival 2014
EDIT: This event has been moved to Friday 14th November A few weeks ago, Eating Exeter had the special opportunity to sample ‘Jonny Does Dinner’ serving Dinner In A Polytunnel at Trill Farm and absolutely loved it. It was an amazing meal served in a fantastic location, ultimately a real treat for a foody who cares about his ingredients. Jonny Does Dinner has had a few … Continue reading 14th November 2014: Spooky Culinary Extravaganza @ The Great Fulfords at Cheriton Bishop
So, we’re going to have a go at this. It might be a really successful stunt, or it might not be, but it’d be nice to have a bit of kudos for the efforts of the last three years. The voting will start on the 10th November, and we’ll need a lot of votes. Lots of votes. LOTS AND LOTS… Continue reading #UKBA15 Blog Awards 2015 – We’ve Entered!
This is a new idea that I have thought might work. It’s very much an experiment, so like all great experiments it might explode with a big BANG. The idea behind this is that quite a lot happens in connection with Eating Exeter, and when there are things on the horizon it’d be nice to share them with the 1560 subscribers who follow this blog … Continue reading Eating Exeter Update – 23rd July 2014
Over the last few months you might have noticed that I’ve started writing more about local ales, craft beer and burgers on Eating Exeter. A quick flick through Instagram and Twitter, makes me feel like I’m turning in to some sort of Beer-o-holic! Last week you might have noticed that the Eating Exeter twitter feed mentioned Beer, Burger and Beyond a new blog that I … Continue reading Beer, Burger and Beyond: The latest addition to our blog family.
