Coldharbour Field Kitchen: A Farm to Fork venue – perfect morning, noon and night, for all seasons in East Devon.
There’s something pretty special about a visit to Coldharbour Field Kitchen in East Devon, an independently owned field to fork relaxed cafe/restaurant in East Devon, which also has a small farm shop.
Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, lunch, a homemade cake and hot chocolate, a traditional Sunday roast or one of their popular “Tapas & Tunes” evenings as I call it, it’s the kind of place that encourages you to relax and settle in, making the most of good food, good company and beautiful countryside views. Children and dogs are welcome too!
Summer Sunset Vibes
I hadn’t visited for some time, so I was really pleased to be invited along to see what they were up to.
The casual dining offering, aptly named the Field Kitchen, overlooks the rolling fields of East Devon, providing the backdrop for some spectacular sunsets when conditions are just right. It’s this setting, combined with a genuine commitment to local produce, that makes Coldharbour Field Kitchen such a special place to visit. It’s an ideal spot for local food and drink showcasing East Devon and suppliers from the wider area in Devon.

About Coldharbour Field Kitchen
Founded in 2016 by business partners Andrea and Beth, Coldharbour Farm Shop, and Field Kitchen is rooted in a farming heritage that stretches back generations. Andrea’s family have farmed the land there since the 1930s, when her grandfather established a dairy farm, and that connection to the land remains at the heart of the business today.
Much of the lamb, mutton and pork served here comes directly from animals reared on the farm to high welfare standards, while other meats, vegetables and ingredients are sourced from trusted local farmers and producers. Many menu items are also made in-house by the kitchen team.

What was on the menu?
Earlier this year, I was invited to visit for one of their much-loved Tapas & Tunes evenings and were reminded exactly why they’re so popular. You can watch the reel here.
Grabbing a table on the decking beneath the stretch marquee, we watched the sun begin to disappear behind the rolling hills while enjoying a Hugo Spritz, alcohol-free beer and mocktail before working our way through a delicious feast of tapas and sharing plates.
The menu showcased local ingredients at their very best as well as the skills to create a spread that is truly delicious.
Crispy, unctuous croquettes, arancini served with a bold tomato sauce, juicy king prawns, flavour-packed sardines, grilled halloumi with roasted grapes and fabulous focaccia with houmous were all packed with flavour.
A beautifully cooked, melt-in-the-mouth rib-eye steak demonstrated the quality of the farm and locally sourced meat, while a generous woodfired pizza completed the spread.
Small touches like the sweet roast grapes on the halloumi and the pickled peppers with the croquettes. showed clever ways to cut through or lift the ingredients.
There are gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options too!

Winter alfresco dining in East Devon
Of course, Coldharbour isn’t just for summer.
As the weather cools, the venue becomes every bit as inviting. Inside, a cosy dining space centred around a warming wood burner offers the perfect retreat on chilly days. Outside, the substantial decking area is covered by an impressive stretch marquee, which is fitted with side panels during the colder months to create a sheltered and welcoming space while still allowing guests to enjoy those wonderful countryside views.
Pair that with local ales, Devon ciders, artisan spirits, excellent coffee and homemade cakes, and you have the perfect setting for a relaxed catch-up whatever the season.

Tunes – live music backdrop
With live music at the weekends, it’s easy to see why these evenings have become such a favourite. We enjoyed the vocals and guitar of Adam Sweet filling the air, and he will be returning in December.
It’s the kind of place where you gather friends and family, share plates, chat, laugh, enjoy a local soft or hard drink of choice and watch the day gently fade into night. They have plenty of upcoming events for the autumn and winter – this venue doesn’t head into slumber just because the surrounding nature might be.

Verdict?
With regular live music, special events throughout the year, fantastic local produce and a genuine farm-to-fork ethos, Coldharbour Farm Shop Café is far more than somewhere to eat. It’s a place to gather, unwind and enjoy the very best of East Devon hospitality.
